Hello, everyone! My name is Ritik, and today I will share with you some important points about health insurance and term insurance that you should know before actually getting them. It’s crucial information that you need to be aware of before getting health insurance.
Life insurance, in my opinion, is a product that you should buy and invest in before any other investment meant to enhance your lifestyle. This is because this insurance, or in other words, investment, is for your family. So that if something happens to you tomorrow, at least your family has enough funds to move forward even without you. This is the reason why today, I will only talk about health insurance in this blog.
Why there is a need of Life Insurance
Let’s start from the beginning. First, let’s see why life insurance is necessary. Life insurance basically works on the fundamental formula of insurance. In simple terms, if person X passes away, money is provided to their family so that they can continue to survive and use it.
Relation between age and Life Insurance
Now let’s understand how it works. Usually, in life insurance, you purchase it at an appropriate age and for a specific term or duration.
In my opinion, your 20s are the ideal time to get insurance. I will explain why. You should consider buying insurance until your retirement age. For example, if you are currently 25 years old and plan to retire at the age of 65, you should opt for a 40-year plan. This means that you will pay a fixed premium to your life insurance company every year, and I will explain the benefits of having a fixed premium shortly. Finally, at the end of the term, you will receive a certain amount if you have a maturity endorsement or benefit plan, or you may receive nothing if you have a term plan.
Term , maturity and Benefit Life Insurance
Now, let’s try to understand what term plan, maturity plan, benefit plan, and endorsement plan mean in life insurance.
Term
If we talk about the term plan, it might seem like a very basic and somewhat random product, but in my opinion, it is the most powerful plan. I will explain why it might seem random shortly. This plan states that when you buy life insurance, let’s say at the age of 25, you take a term plan for a specific term, meaning you take a term plan for the next w, in this plan, years, you will pay a specific amount of premium to the life insurance company every year so that they cover you in case of your demise. In other words, God forbid, if you were to die for any reason during the specified term, your family would receive a substantial amount.
Who will receive your Insurance
Here, family means whoever you decide as the nominee, whether it’s your spouse, parents, or children, they would receive this amount in the event of your death, and believe me, this amount will be quite significant.
What if you not
But if, suppose, nothing happens to you and you remain alive until the end of this term, then you won’t receive anything. This means if you took a 40-year term life insurance and paid its premium for 40 years, you will literally get nothing in the end if nothing unfortunate happens in your life. While it’s a good thing that nothing bad happened to you, and we all wish for a long and healthy life, the downside here is that you will have paid so much premium, and you won’t receive anything in return.
Why people avoid Term Life Insurance
This is the main reason why people perceive this as a somewhat random product. They wonder why they should buy such a life insurance product. Most people think that by opting for this type of life insurance, they will pay premiums for 40 years, hoping that nothing unfortunate happens, and in the end, they won’t get anything. The reason why I consider term life insurance more is that here you are offered maximum coverage at the lowest premium. This happens because in this category, life insurance companies are not obligated to return any premium, so they provide a higher amount of coverage at a lower premium.
What amount of insurance should one take?
Now let’s see how much term life insurance one should take. Suppose your annual salary is X amount, then according to me, your life insurance coverage should be 10 times your yearly salary. And this is the minimum coverage that I am suggesting. You should aim for at least this much life insurance so that your family can survive for at least the next 10 years without you. However, the ideal recommendation is 20 times your salary.
So, if your annual salary is $100,000, you should at least consider getting a term life insurance of 10 times that amount, which is $1 million. It’s advisable to strive for as much coverage as possible, aiming for the ideal coverage of 20 times your salary.
Why Term Life Insurance
One of the superb aspects of term life insurance is that you always have to pay a fixed amount as premium. For example, if you pay $200 as a premium in the first year, you will have to pay the same amount every year as long as you have the insurance. The advantage of this is that no matter how much inflation occurs, the premium amount will not increase. While $200 may seem like a lot today, it will be a relatively small amount after 20 or 30 years.
Let’s discuss what things should be considered when buying term insurance:
- First and foremost, keep in mind that you are purchasing a life insurance product to insure your life, so all the features should be focused on securing your life.
2. If your income stops due to death, term insurance will be helpful. But what if your income stops due to a serious illness or injury, leading to disability? In such cases, you should consider add-ons. Add-ons are additional features added to the main base term insurance plan to provide extra security for your income. In my opinion, you should definitely consider two add-ons in your plan:
a. Illness add-on – This will provide coverage if you become seriously ill, and your income is affected until you recover.
b. Disability add-on – In case you become disabled for any reason, and your income stops, the insurance company will provide compensation.
3. Finally, when choosing term insurance, let’s see how you can choose a good plan and what factors to consider when buying term life insurance:
a. Reputed brand – It’s advisable to go for a reputed brand because term life insurance is a long-term plan, and reputed brands usually have a good track record in maintaining the integrity of long-term plans. Choosing a reputed brand gives you confidence and trust that your money is secure, and your family’s future is in safe hands.
b. Claims ratio – The claims ratio indicates how many people have claimed insurance, and how many claims the company has accepted. It’s not necessary for companies to accept 100% of claims as there are instances of fraud, and companies may reject claims due to policy violations. However, when choosing a company for your life insurance plan, it’s essential to consider a company with a good claims ratio – not necessarily perfect, but significantly high.
Always keep these factors in mind while selecting a term life insurance plan to ensure comprehensive coverage and security for your family.
- Disclose everything – The fourth thing I want to tell you is to please disclose all your details to your insurance company. Do not hide anything. You wouldn’t want your family to run around trying to settle things after you are gone.
- lastly I would advise you to get your life insurance as soon as possible. It’s not urgent, but if you can get it by the age of 30, it would be quite beneficial.
